Ooh, and you thought today was going to be me being all preachy and telling you to Vote! Vote or Die! Voting Is Important! Well you were only half right. Today would not be complete without reminding everyone that it is Fat Tuesday, also known as Mardi Gras.

Fat Tuesday in New Orleans is a holiday, a day to sit by and watch Zulu & Rex roll by, to catch a golden coconut & see the King & Queen of Mardi Gras themselves, the King & Queen of Rex. Oh the memories. Well, um, some memories and some hazy recollections of flying beads, Popeye's chicken, flambeaux men, North Face fleeces you wore for a week straight, high school marching bands and a coozy that kept my hand warm from the bottomless cup of hurricane or rum and coke. Oh the memories indeed. That and the memory of doing everything in your power to avoid "the cess pool" a/k/a the sludge that accumulated in the gutters next to the curbs. That and the sigh of relief when Carnival season was over and all your favorite restaurants went back to a full menu and normal prices. Ahh yes. New Orleans Lives!

Ok, that and if you live in a Super Tuesday state, please go VOTE. If you arn't registered to vote, please register so you are ready to roll in November.
