Worst roll ever

ADVERTISEMENTS
Last night we went to this place for dinner, with one of my classmates. Most of the food was awesome - huge variety of rolls, good fish, etc. Good martinis too.

Anyway, so they have this roll. It is called the Buddha Roll and is described as shrimp tempura, eel, cilantro, spicy sauce, and fresh mango. I am suspicious of the mango but we order it anyway. The "spicy sauce" was apparently mango... gelatin? Some sort of gelatinous mango-ish substance with some hot pepper flakes in it. It was putrid and completely ruined the rest of the roll. I tried two pieces of the roll, just to make sure that it wasn't just the first bite.

It wasn't. It was AWFUL.

I feel the need to point out here that I am the least picky eater ever. I will happily eat tripe or brains or a hot dog from a street vendor or a spring roll made under slightly dubious circumstances in a dingy Thai place. And I will probably like it - I love food, and I love trying new things. But seriously, this was so confused and so gross even I didn't like it.

Anyway, do not order the Buddha Roll. But go there, for sure. Everything else was great.
