Racial profiling prompted cops to get everyone lined up at barbershops, says ACLU

By Richard Binder

ADVERTISEMENTS

A federal lawsuit filed Wednesday accuses Moreno Valley police officers of racial profiling in raiding black-owned barbershops without warrants last April.

The lawsuit further contends that the police department, the Sheriff's Department and a state inspection board conducted searches under the false pretext that they were part of a health inspection.

Criminal warrant checks were run on barbers and customers, according to the suit, and one barber was handcuffed and detained in a police car for 10 minutes.

The ACLU of Southern California filed the suit on behalf of three barbers and asks that policies be adopted by the defendants to cease racial profiling.  The suit also seeks compensatory damages.

See these for details.
