McMartin defense lawyer to revisit Alamo

In 1991, California attorney Danny Davis represented evangelist Tony Alamo in a child-abuse case that never went to trial. Nearly 20 years later, Davis is going to bat for Alamo again to fight federal charges of taking girls across state lines for sex.

Davis will take over the case from John Wesley Hall Jr., a Little Rock criminal defense lawyer who claims he has already laid much of the groundwork for a defense. Hall remains listed as Alamo's lawyer in the federal docket, but said he will turn over the case to Davis.  This change of defense lawyers suggests Alamo wants to attack the credibility of witnesses for the prosecution.

Alamo, now 74 years old, was sentenced to six years in prison for tax evasion in 1994.  He was released in 1998.
