Georgia Supreme Court on indigent defense

Monday the Georgia Supreme Court handed down Georgia Public Defender Standard Council v. The State et al. No S09A0379.  The Court addresses the obligation of the state’s indigent defender system to pay appointed counsel From the case summary: The Supreme Court of Georgia has unanimously upheld a Burke County judge?s order holding the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council in contempt for refusing to pay the cost of representing a man sentenced to death.
