: ConglomerateTexas Tech, Ole Miss & Michael Lewis
By Gordon Smith, Christine, Hurt, Vic Fleischer, Fred Tung, Lisa Fairfax, David Zaring
In a matter of minutes, the Cotton Bowl will begin, pitting the Texas Tech Red Raiders against the University of Mississippi Rebels. So, what possible connection can this game have to the world of business, law, economics and society? Michael Lewis, who incidentally has a new book on financial downturns, Panic, wrote a (very, very good) book on Ole Miss left tackle Michael Oher, The Blind Side, and a longish NYT Magazine article on Red Raider coach Mike Leach. Pretty big coincidence, and of course the reasons that drove Lewis to write about these two sportsmen should make for a pretty good bowl game. Go Red Raiders!
