Once a storage company takes possession of a stored asset and attempts to sell it to satisfy delinquent storage fees, can they continue to charge for storage?

We went thru a no asset chapter 7 bankruptcy 7 seven years ago. We had an old Camero car at a storage yard. I informed the storage yard that I could no longeer afford to pay the fees or the car insurance. He asked if I no longer wanted the car? I told him no. He said fine and told me he would keep it and sell it. I thought the matter was over, but he is now suing me for back storage fees. Can he do this?
