Can my employer take me off the payroll while I am on maternity leave and not offer me my job back?


I went on medical leave during the 2nd week of April 2006 I turned in a note from my doctor stating my reason for medical leave. When I had note releasing me from medical leave about 2 months later the director of nursing at the nursing home told me that I didn't fill out a leave of absense for (which I knew nothing about) and that I needed to reapply for my job as I was off the payroll?
