Wrongful termination for reporting misconduct of a co-worker?

I work as a delivery truck driver. While I was waiting for my truck to be loaded, I was approached by coworker who started a verbal argument. He came up to my face, pushed me, and tried to punch me. He was face to face with me the whole time. I basically avoided any physical confrontation and told him I was not going to fight with him. My fellow coworkers saw this and pulled me aside and told me to be careful because he had a knife 6 inch blade pulled out on his side. This man has had problems with other coworkers and I assume I was just someone else for him to take out frustrations on. I felt like a victim in this situation. I went straight in to the office to tell my boss I was upset and that they needed to take action. A few days later they told me I was fired for misconduct. What did i do wrong, but go to the boss worried about my safety.
