I married American citizen 2 years ago and have conditional permanent resident status. The marriage has not gone well and my husband has left. What effect will filing for divorce have on my application to have conditions on permanent residency removed next year? I understand I may have to file form I-751 with waiver of joint filing requirement. Is that correct? Do I need to formally divorce before this form is filed?
