Can driving accident be cause for termination?

I need to find out if I need a lawyer. Last friday I was driving my cement truck and lost the brakes, going off the side of a mountain and rolling down 150 feet before I finally stoped. There are rumors that I am going to get fired because I didn't have my back axles down. I know that I did. I am thinking that the impact of the crash made them retract. When the truck goes off they retract and when I finally stoped rolling my truck died. I looked at the history of the truck today and the brakes have not been replaced since 12-2004. The police report says the truck was "too heavy" and the accident was caused by "driver error" due to the axles not being down. I am not sure what to do. I went back to work today on light duty but am still on workers compensation. There is also a rumor that anyone that has ever been on workmans comp has been fired.
