Could I sue Best Buy for illegally detaining me?

My friend went to Best Buy and returned a product for me that I had purchased on a gift card. After returning the product, he took out the card and asked if all the money was returned to it. The manager steals the card from his hand and starts to make inquiries about it. He then says that he will not return the card to anyone but myself. I present myself and he still does not return the card saying that he has the right to keep it because I had been buying products that Best Buy was not making any money on. I had to wait at least half an hour for him to return the card after he made up a story about how he was going to call the authorities (which he never did). I did not know my rights at the time, but wonder if there is any legal action I could take against Best Buy for this?
