What can an independant contractor do if the hiring company files for bankruptcy after the job is completed but before payment is made?

I worked as an independant contractor for the electronics company Tweeter which may file for bankruptcy at any moment. I am still owed about $12,000 for work I completed for their marketing department. I found out about the bankruptcy possiblity thru the news and now all the people who hired my won't return my calls. What recourse do I have to collect on the bill?
