"Steamed Dumb-plings" From Nashville

By John Darer

ADVERTISEMENTS

Steamed Dumb-Plings Earlier today I reached out to factoring broker Rhonda Bentzen with a request and a follow up to the ongoing questions that she refuses to answer.

"Dear Ms. Bentzen:

Please remove the link in the "Blogs of Interest" section in the left column of Bentzen Funding Solutions blog immediately.

When are you going to answer the pending questions?

(1) updated percentage of structured settlement brokers who take fees from you resulting from referrals for structured settlement factoring transactions..

(2) identify which of your competitors have walked away from court orders as you alleged on July 28, 2009

We are simply seeking the back up to written statements you have made to the public"

SO HOW DOES RHONDA BENTZEN RESPOND?

Fly_chopsticks_md_clr

1. Her written response suggests that Bentzen is simply green with envy that this author elected to do an informative educational video podcast about a factoring exchange with an executive from Settlement  Quotes, LLC over on LBN.

2.  Says "I want people to go to your site and take in every article that you write about me so that they can get a better understanding of the scope of the BS you write about me and how completely ridiculous it is"

Comments:

  • We encourage all of the readers of the Bentzen Funding Solutions blog, including those who are drawn there by the Alexa noted  top search term "Rhonda Bentzen Stupid" to read EVERY post this author has written on the subject, including the ones punctuated by piles of poop.  Click either the Bentzen Funding Solutions or Rhonda Bentzen tabs. Be informed and have a good laugh.  Judge for yourself whether or not it is helpful or ridiculous.
  • Unlike Ms. Bentzen who consider this a "blog of interest"  we assign no value to the Bentzen Funding Solutions blog which provides an outdated gossip column and no useful information on factoring which is the business Ms. Bentzen and her company are actually in. This is the major problem with Ms. Bentzen that she just doesn't get and it's no wonder her competitors are just passing her and her company's website by. The fact that Ms. Bentzen was briefly in the structured settlement business does not give her the "birthright" to referrals for structured settlement factoring transactions by industry members.

3.  Says "Unlike you, I find it distasteful to disparage my competitors in a public forum by name" and ". I would love to provide you with the other information, however, you have proven to me that you cannot use it in an objective manner".

Comments

  • Does  this mean that Ms. Bentzen is an "admiral of the narrow seas", (i.e. one who prefers to piss under the table" into her companion's shoes? or "behind their back)?
  • The structured settlement watchdog has no qualms about nipping at the heals and/or barking at the bad behavior of others given the reality that codes of professional conduct espoused by industry trade associations purport to be meaningful but are never enforced.
  • Ms. Bentzen has made accusations about competitors that would be useful for the masses to know. Yet despite numerous requests dating back almost 6 months, she refuses to name names or provide back up so we may as well assume them not to be true at this point.
  • If Bentzen were to name names and provide proof of the competitor's business practices she alleges on her own blog she controls that information. Moreover she would actually provide something useful for a change.

4.  Bizarrely alleges that she "once asked me if it was fine for casualty insurers to purposely drag their heels on cases, especially policy limits cases, where there is no question of liability".

Comments

  • There are laws in various states designed to promote and enforce fair claims settlement practices. I think insurers should adhere to them, but I'm not sure what that has to do with the subject matter of this blog or hers. Should that surprise you?

5.  Bizarrely alleges that she "once asked me if it was acceptable for attorneys to bill past clients for their time in reviewing  factoring documentation"

Comments

  • Presumably this was an attempt to help justify the taking of fees by structured settlement brokers and settlement planners on referrals for structured settlement factoring transactions. Bentzen's December  2007 assertion that taking such fees or "kickbacks" helps sellers of structured settlements get a better deal was given short shrift by other members Bentzen's own industry.
  • The structured settlement factoring initiative that Bentzen invested substantial amounts of time and emotional energy trying to sabotage was adopted by only 5% of the structured settlement industry. Lots of scrambling went on "behind the scenes" when the poop was hitting the fan.
  • A source recently told this author that given the opportunity by a high ranking United States Senator to take care of factoring in new financial services regulation, the NSSTA elected to pass. Now there's some more food for thought.
  • Oddly none of the clients that this author knows do or did business with Rhonda Bentzen disclose on their websites that they engage in structured settlement factoring transactions.
  • As to Bentzen's alleged question that's for the ethics board to decide.
