By Dan Slater

ADVERTISEMENTS

kaganThe last few years have come up mostly roses for Harvard Law Dean Elena Kagan. She’s managed to snag some of the nation’s most high-profile profs — including Noah Feldman, Cass Sunstein and Lawrence Lessig. And the kids apparently love her, too. (Who doesn’t like free coffee and a beach volleyball court that doubles as an ice rink in the winter?) In 2006, when Kagan was not picked to succeed Larry Summers as Harvard’s president, the law students threw a party that featured T-shirts saying “I [heart] Elena.”

What’s next for Elena? The Boston Globe, echoing an AP report from Friday, notes that the Obama Transition Team is considering Kagan as a leading candidate for the job of solicitor general.

Kagan, according to the Globe, reportedly met Obama when the two worked on the University of Chicago Law School faculty in the 1990s. She started teaching at Harvard in 1999, after stints as a White House lawyer for and domestic policy adviser in the Clinton administration.
