: Law Blog - WSJ.com?What Inspired Me To Go to Law School?: The Video Series
By Ashby Jones
Earlier this summer, student-loan company Access Group sponsored a contest. It offered a $10,000 law-school scholarship (enough for books and a few weeks of classes at a few of our pricier institutions of higher learning) to the law student who produced the best sub-four-minute video explaining the inspiration behind his or her decision to go to law school.
The rules were straightforward: upload the video to YouTube by July 15. From there, the video with the most votes would win the big bucks.
Well, the winner — and the runners up — were announced on Tuesday. We’ve spent the last few minute watching all the videos. While we like some other than others, we found ourselves smiling for one reason or another at all of them.
The big winner of this year’s contest: It’s Branigan Robertson of Chapman University Law School. Click here for his video. The runners up are here (Ana DeFrates, University of Texas Law School); here (Anna Grace, Northeastern Law); here (Joseph Duerst, Arizona State); here (John Grimm, Georgetown); and here Ted Cardos (NYU).
Our opinion: They’re all worth a watch, but we honestly agree, we liked Robertson’s the best. Simple idea, well carried out. Plus, there a low-fi quality to it that we appreciated and could relate to, given that we could never ever pull anything as high quality as DeFrates’s off.
Tell us your thoughts, LBers, good, bad or otherwise.
