Cornbread. Anne left a comment asking if I had a good recipe for cornbread, and oh man, do I ever. But you might be a smidge disappointed. Well. That depends. If you are a sweet cornbread person you won't be. And so I give to all of you sweet cornbread lovers:

Thats, right, Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix. Now I like to bake the batter in a round cake pan (or when I'm feeling homesick, in my Great-Great Grandmother's cast iron skillet from the farm that has no handle but oh man is it perfectly seasoned from cooking bacon and baking cornbread in it for 60 or so odd years) and then cut the cornbread like a cake & serve it in wedges (I dunno why, but I like it that way) and I promise you this corn mix is delicious. But if you want to make it from scratch, or you enjoy a more savory cornbread, I give you this link to deliciousness. Everything I have ever made from that website has been delectable (a few have made my regular rotation of dinners) and I'm sure this cornbread is just as good as the rest. I will warn you though- I haven't made it because, as mentioned, I prefer a sweeter cornbread, just like my Mama made it- so bake at your own risk.

And? A word to the wise? Avoid all other Jiffy mixes. The pancake, muffin or any other. They taste like poop. They have the market on corn muffin mix but the rest of it is for the birds. Literally. Don't waste your money, all $1.29 of it.

And? Can I just say, after returning from a weekend wedding, that I don't care who you are, or if you were raised in a barn- it is universal knowledge that as a guest you don't wear anything wedding-dress-esque to a wedding. It is just tacky. So to the lady who wore a cream & white floor length lace gown to the wedding I went to this weekend, I shun you and your tacky self. You probably wear white after Labor Day as well. And put dark meat in your chicken salad. You probably even use Miracle Whip. So a word to the wise:

(Formerly Published as Miss Manners on Painfully Proper Weddings)

Learn it, know it, be it. You might even find a few, well, helpful things in it. Such as you have one year from the date of the wedding to bestow a gift upon the couple. Perfect for shotgun weddings (if you are still waffling between the champagne flutes & the diaper genie they registered for) or if you ahem, forget the gift in the Big City when you drive to the wedding. Just saying.
