: [ Useless Dicta ]Easter
Funny thing is, my family is not religious, we never went to church growing up, and it's not that my parents are totally opposed to the idea of relgion, it's just that they didn't feel like they wanted to be a part of a church or raise my sister and I in a church. For the most part, we turned out fine. And yet, despite this fact, my mom still insists that we celebrate Easter, I'm starting to think she doesn't really get what Easter is all about and how absurd it is that she insists that we celebrate with a big family breakfast, meals, etc.
I'm particularly annoyed this year, because today was my one day to go skiing, it is the last day for several of the resorts here and as an end of the season present the snow gods left 6 inches of fresh powder on the slopes last night. I get that it's an excuse for a family day and that my mom is crazy about family days. I also get that she doesn't ski and can get lonely when the rest of us take off to the slopes and leave her behind. But seriously, is it really necessary to use Easter as the guise to get all of us non-religious peeps to stay home??
Bright spot of the day, I'm 25 and somehow mom still hasn't gotten the memo that I no longer need an easter basket. So I'll be eating my way through plenty of peanut butter eggs for the rest of the week :)
