Drinking from the proverbial firehose

It's hard to describe how this week went. I think that I'll really have to take a few weeks and then look back on how it went. Starting any new job is always a little intimidating. It's kinda like trying to merge into fast moving traffic. You're at a stand still while everybody is zipping along. Not only do you have to find a spot in traffic, but you also have to learn the rules of the road as you go. On top of all the new law information that I need to know, there's also an amazing amount of office procedures and protocol that one needs to follow in order for a large law firm to function efficiently. I think once I start getting used to this, I'll feel a little less overwhelmed.

So, the Europe trip.

I miss being over there, although it is a nice feeling to be back home and sleeping in my own bed. As mentioned, overall it was a good trip with a nice mix of relaxing and sight seeing. I read three books. Got some sun, caught up on some sleep and also met some interesting people.

I spent the first few days in London. I didn't do too much sight seeing then, but spent some time at Regents Park and also saw Westminister Abbey.

We then headed from London to Paris via the Chunnel on the Eurostar. We arrived in Paris and stayed at a little one start hotel near Montmartre in the 18th arrondissement. It was an alright spot and an interesting neighbourhood, although we did have a sweaty Metro ride to get downtown to see most of the sights.

In our two and a half days of sight seeing we saw Sacre Coeur, Notre Dame, The Effiel Tower, The Louvre, Jardin des Tuileries and also walked along the Seine.

Next time I go to Paris, I'm going to plan on spending more then 3 nights there. We then hopped on a TGV train a went from Paris to Geneva. What was interesting was that on the train before it left the station, they made an announcement warning about pick pockets. Apparently what will happen is that after people have dropped off their luggage, theives will jump on the train, grab a bag and then take off before the train leaves. We however arrived with all our bags.

Geneva was lovely. It's actually quite small compared to London and Paris, but its incredibly scenic and has a wonderful waterfront. In the middle of the Harbour is the
Jet D'Eau which is a giant water jet. There are also great little boats that will transport you back and forth across the Harbour.

We visited the UN Genvea Office, The International Red Cross Museum and St. Pierre's Church (where John Calvin preached). We flew back from Geneva to London on Easyjet.

In our last few days in London, we saw Buckingham Palace, St. James's Garden, Picadilly Circus, Liecester Square, Covent Garden, The Tower of London, The Millenium Bridge and the Tate Modern.

And then I went home and started work.
