In einer Pressemitteilung berichtet die Contra Costa County Library (Slogan: “Bringing People and Ideas together“) stolz darüber, dass sie die erste amerikanische Bibliothek ist, die automatische Buchverleih- und Rückgabeautomaten an Bahnhöfen anbietet:

The list of conveniences for those who live life on the go is about to grow. The Contra Costa County Library is expanding services and improving accessibility by making its popular collection available to people at Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) stations and local shopping centers.

Wie das Library Journal schreibt, bietet so ein Automat Platz für ca. 300 - 400 Bücher und kostet schlanke 100.000 Dollar. Das funktioniert im Prinzip so wie am Geldautomaten. Beim schwedischen Hersteller distec ab heissen die Geräte “Bokomaten und Mediamaten” und auf der Website erhält man neben einem Einblick in das Innere des Automaten auch eine Simulation des Ausleihvorganges als PDF-File. Den NutzerInnen der Bibliotheken wird das System sicher gefallen…
