: Food Safety NewsSimilac Baby Formula Recalled Due to Insect Parts
By Dan Flynn and Suzanna Schreck
The company said there was a "remote possibility" that the insects or their larvae could have contaminated some of the formula. It initiated the recall as a precautionary measure.
The company says that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration determined that any formula containing beetles would pose no immediate health risk, but a baby might refuse to eat or experience gastrointestinal discomfort if small insect parts irritated the GI tract.
The recall includes some powder formulas in plastic containers and some powder formulas in 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans. For more information go to the Similac website and type in a lot number to determine if your product is affected or call 800-986-8850.
Liquid formulas are not involved in the recall.
