Looking Back at the Wonderland Murders

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the death of legendary porn actor John Holmes. The 43-year-old star of the darker side of Hollywood died from AIDS. Holmes?s career is long and storied, but no chapter is more disturbing than the Wonderland Murders. On July 1, 1981, Los Angeles police received a call from a worker who heard a woman moaning at a home in Laurel Canyon. Upon their arrival, police discovered a gruesome scene. The moaning woman, Susan Lanius, was covered in blood, but still alive. She was the lucky one. Four other people, Ronald Lanius, Joy Audrey Miller, William Ray Deveral, and Barbara Lee Richardson were all discovered bloodied and dead.
