: ACS BlogChanging Times For ACS, Media Notes
In continuing coverage on the evolution of the American Constitution Society, The New York Times reported today that President-elect Barack Obama is already turning to the organization and its affiliates for input. “Although Mr. Obama has just started to fill the thousands of politically appointed jobs in his administration, the society’s affiliates are already well positioned to shape legal policy, hiring decisions and judicial nominations for years to come,” reported The Times.
The Times noted that former ACS Executive Director Lisa Brown is now the White House Staff Secretary, ACS Board of Directors Member Eric H. Holder, Jr., is Obama’s nominee for the attorney general and former Board member Ronald Klain is Vice President-elect Joe Biden’s chief of staff. Also, ACS Board members Goodwin Liu, associate dean and law professor at UC Berkeley School of Law, and Dawn Johnsen, a law professor at the Indiana University School of Law, are on the Obama-Biden transition team.
Orin S. Kerr, a law professor at the George Washington University Law School, described by The Times as “conservative-leaning,” told the newspaper that, “People who are committed enough to a progressive vision of the law to work for and with ACS when progressives are out of office are going to be a natural resource when the electoral winds shift.” Kerr is a frequent participant at ACS events, the newspaper noted.
