The Greatest Compliment An Arizona Bankruptcy Attorney Can Receive!

By Joseph McDaniel, Esq.

ADVERTISEMENTS
I got a kick out of it when I was asked a bunch of questions by a professional on the phone who told me he didn't like his current bankruptcy lawyer, because he, the professional, had a very complex case and his current lawyer couldn't answer his questions.

I listened, politely, like you do, and he told me the name of his current lawyer, and I said the guy was pretty good, and I'd known him for years, and changing horses in the middle of the stream might not be such a good idea.

He asked me a bunch of questions and I told him to ask his current lawyer, because I was sure this was just a communication issue with his current lawyer.

We hung up as friends.

Then one of his biggest creditors called me, and I got it.

He was doing the old "go around the city and talk to all the best bankruptcy lawyers in Phoenix to conflict 'em out" trick.

Normally that's done in small towns and usually the trick is done with divorce lawyers.

But once I got the call I went in and did "The Fonz" in the mirror. Not because I was board certified as a specialist in az bankruptcy law; or the AV rating from Martindale; or the "superb" rating from AVVO.

I had made the "this guy has got to be conflicted out" list!

Cracked me up.
