The newest recalls involve SmartSpace chairs from JoAnne's, coolers by Igloo Products, TV stands by Studio RTA, PowerWing Scooter and four-wheeled ride ons from Razor USA, and, of course, another toy with too much lead in the paint. The newest danger to your children is a really cute friction powered police car by TCB Imports...

The FDA, part 2

Posted on September 25, 2008
The Food and Drug Administration is responsible for a wide range of products, but the one people think of most often is prescription drugs. As I said in my earlier post, the FDA was originally created to protect the public from products that claimed to do something it didn't (like cure cancer, or whatnot)...

The FDA, part 1

Posted on September 24, 2008
With all the news about China's milk and recent litigation involving skin creams and eye washes that are having nasty side effects (and, of course, the BPA plastic scare) I began to wonder what responsibility the FDA has.I did not know this, but the FDA's primarily responsibility when it was created was to regulate labeling...

Harry Potter Bookends Have Too Much Lead

Posted on September 24, 2008
The federal paint standard has taken quite a few hits in the last few years. With outsourcing of manufacturing and lax supervision of plants in other countries, many large corporations have had to pull children's toys off of the shelves. It all began with Thomas the Tank Engine...

The Roundabout

Posted on September 22, 2008
I was in France the first time I saw a roundabout. It is a feature of the road and it is very cool. It is a circle instead of a four-way stop. It is very neat to watch and kind of scary to drive in. When you come to the roundabout there are cars already circling...

Posted on September 22, 2008
We see a number of different collisions that occur on California Highways including a lot of motorcycle crashes. Unfortunately, the injuries are usually much more severe with bike riders than people in cars. Broken bones and other serious orthopedic injuries are common...

Collision Illustrates Dangers of Bikes & Big Rigs

Posted on September 19, 2008
Safety considerations come in all shapes and sizes, especially when using public highways. Take for instance two vehicles that frequent the roadways, bikes and big rigs. The consequences of a meeting of the two were tragic Thursday when an elderly Yuba City man riding a mountain bike on Highway 99 in Sutter County was killed in a collision with a big rig...

A Sacramento Lawyer Publishes a Guide to Auto Accidents in California

Posted on September 19, 2008
I came across this article this morning and thought you should know about it. After being in an automobile accident you can't be expected to think clearly and do everything that you need to, that's why hiring an attorney early is a good idea. Attorneys know the law and they know what needs to be done, but at the same time, they are not the ones that have been damaged...

I Trust You, It's Everyone Else I Don't Trust

Posted on September 18, 2008
Shocking statistics in an article about texting while driving have made me pretty mad today. Forty-eight percent of drivers between the ages of eighteen and twenty-four have admitted to sending a text message, instant message, or e-mail while driving...

Citrus Heights Installed Traffic Cameras in Two Intersections where Fatal Collisions Occurred

Posted on September 18, 2008
This is how a city is supposed to respond to incidents like this. Let's face it, people do not always obey the law. It is nearly impossible to think that a government body could prevent collisions from occurring when the people do not act as responsible citizens...

Mothers Avoiding Plastic Bottles Have New Problem

Posted on September 16, 2008
If you bought your kids a metal water bottle from Potterybarn Kids, it may be apart of the newest recall from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. I know many parents have chosen to use metal containers instead of plastic, thanks to the BPA chemical scare and the newest Brita ads claiming your water bottle will spend 30 minutes with you on the treadmill and then 30 thousand years in a landfill...

BPA in Plastic- Questions, Answers, and more Questions

Posted on September 16, 2008
There is a lot of research going on right now on the chemical BPA which is used in baby bottles and other plastics to make them shatter-proof. Some studies have shown that the chemical can cause damage to reproductive systems; others have shown that it creates a higher risk of getting diabetes...

The State could have Prevented the Incident by building a fence

Posted on September 10, 2008
In 1997, a man was left in a vegetative state because a 15-year-old threw a 2 ½ pound chunk of asphalt at traffic on I-5. The driver was struck in the head and his life has never been the same. Now we find out that an incident like this had happened before...

Fatal Hit and Run in Fair Oaks

Posted on September 08, 2008
Never leave the scene if you are involved in an accident.California Vehicle Code section 20001, et seq. states quite clearly that if you are involved in a collision, YOU MUST STOP. Information that must be given if requested is driver's license, vehicle registration, current residence address of the driver and of the registered owner, and other valid identification to the other involved parties...

California Traffic Deaths Hit Record Low in 2007

Posted on September 08, 2008
The statistics for motor vehicle accident fatalities in California were recently released and showed a small drop in fatalities. Unfortunately there were still nearly 4000 deaths on California Highways last year. Although traffic deaths hit a record low in 2007, motorcycle accidents and deaths increased nearly 25%...

Accident on U.S. 50! Wow, what a week...

Posted on September 08, 2008
Friday afternoon, on my way home from work, I witnessed a car vs. motorcycle collision. It happened right in front of me. I am so thankful that I didn't freak out or hit anybody. At first I was shocked. The motorcyclist spun out. He separated from his bike really quickly, then his bike skidded across three lanes of traffic while the rider rolled and rolled on the ground...

Everyone already knows, but it bears repeating: Big Rigs Are SCARY!

Posted on September 04, 2008
Tuesday morning was a horrendous traffic day for everyone, I think. The end of the three-day weekend, the colleges are back in session, and of course, the people coming home from a four-day weekend were on the road. It is no wonder that traffic was stop and go down the freeway, it was expected...

Do you really need a lawyer?

Posted on September 03, 2008
I may be biased, but, of course, the answer is yes. Even in something simple like a car accident, you need a lawyer. You hire an attorney and that attorney works for you. He or she has your best interest in mind and will fight for you. My boss will tell you all you need to know about insurance companies on our website (http://www...

Rule Number Two: Be courteous, especially when you're frustrated. One of my jobs is to gather records on our clients. This entails ordering them, paying the copy fees, and following up with the providers (because we all know how forgetful they can be sometimes)...
