Harvard Law School Moves Into Exec Ed

By Gordon Smith, Christine, Hurt, Vic Fleischer, Fred Tung, Lisa Fairfax, David Zaring

ADVERTISEMENTS

It's business school week here at the Glom, and if you're wondering what is going on with that Milbank Tweed education course at Harvard Law School, my guess is this:  HBS and Wharton and all the rest of the b schools, in addition to charging crazy tuitions, do a great deal of executive education, that is, continuing education courses, conferences, and seminars at a very high cost.  It is yet another reason why the schools are so well-heeled.  And yet law schools really don't do this at all.  It was only a matter of time - the only surprise to me is why now?  And for that, I'd be inclined to point you to a certain financial crisis that occured just as HLS was building its largest building yet, speculative though such an analysis would be.

While we're on the business school topic, I'll point you to another position announcement after the jump, this one from the College of Charleston, subject of this enconium by the Times's restaurant critic.

The College of Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina invites applications for a business law tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning fall 2011. Candidates are expected to have a J.D. from an accredited law school and an advanced degree, preferably in taxation.  Teaching areas, in addition to the legal environment of business, could include taxation, securities and/or commercial law depending on the applicant?s specialization and program demands.  The faculty member will be expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals as well as participate in service to the department, school, College and professional community.  Information about our program can be found at http://www.cofc.edu.  Applicants should send a cover letter, vitae, and names of three references to: Dr. William Koprowski via email to koprowskiw@cofc.edu. The College of Charleston is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer and encourages applications from women and minorities.
