: Traumatic Brain Injury Law BlogNews Correspondent Suffers On-Air Stroke, Could Lead to Future Brain Injuries
By Bruce Stern
Serene Branson, reporter with a CBS news station out of Los Angels, California, suffered what seemed to be a minor stroke, seizure, blood clot or transient ischemic attack on-air during a live broadcast from the Grammy's Sunday night. Branson, a seasoned reporter with two Emmy nominations, experienced problems with her speech during the broadcast.
She was examined by paramedics on the scene and was driven home by a co-worker but was not taken to the hospital that night. In cases like this, immediate medical attention is imperative. Although Branson was examined by a doctor Monday morning, immediate medical attention and constant monitoring throughout the night would have been able to rule out causes such as a clot, a brain tumor or other problems in the brain. If left untreated and undiagnosed, any of the potential causes for the issues she experienced Sunday could lead to greater medical issues for Branson in the future.
