: Marler BlogListeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus cause Surtex Foods to recall cheese

Surtex Foods Co. says it is recalling its Oaxaca (wah-HAH'-kah) string cheese because it may be contaminated with a pair of bacteriums.
The Los Angeles-based company said Monday that its "La Original" brand, which comes in a 17.63-ounce clear package could be susceptible to Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus.
The product was distributed only in California. No illnesses have been reported.
The recall was the result of a routine sampling program by the Food and Drug Administration and the company has ceased the production and distribution of the string cheese brand.
