Appeals Judge Elevated to KS High Court

By Peter Hardin

ADVERTISEMENTS

Kansas Court of Appeals Judge Nancy Moritz Caplinger will be elevated to the state Supreme Court, as a result of an appointment by Gov. Mark Parkinson.

Judge Caplinger also has served as  an assistant U.S. attorney; was a civil litigator;  and represented the federal government in nonlitigation matters, according to an Associated Press article.

She will join two other women justices on the state’s seven-member high court. President Ernestine Krehbiel of the Kansas League of Women Voters, a Justice at Stake partner group, said in a statement, “This appointment of this knowledgeable and proven judge moves this court to better mirror the state’s population. Courts should reflect the people they serve.”
