: Sunlight FoundationSunlight Blogger Round-up: Open Access week begins
By Zubedah Nanfuka
In this week’s round-up, we highlight some of the activities of the Open Access Week while we look at the progress made by the Federal Research Public Access Act Bill, among other blog posts. Here is a summary of the compilation:
- A Minnesota campaign law requiring disclosure of corporate donations, is fast becoming a national model. See how other states are trying to implement the law after the U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowed corporations to spend unlimited money in elections. Aspasia?s blog has more.
- Former director of the National Institute of Health Harold Varmus highlighted the benefits of open federal science in a new video released for Open Access week that runs from October 18-24. Join the discussion on the OMB Watch blog, as Gavin Baker details the progress of the Federal Research Public Access Act Bill.
- Last weekend in California, local open gov activist Adriel Hampton helped to organize CityCamp San Francisco. The successful ?unconference? provided lessons on citizen development using city apps such as CitySourced and SeeClickFix to report graffiti tags. Hampton, who also runs Gov 2.0 Radio shares his thoughts about mapping and promoting civic treasures on his Wired to Share blog.
- A ruling in the court of appeals in Shoreline Washington, concluded that metadata is subject to disclosure under the Washington?s Public Records Act. Charles Davis introduces the issue on the FOI Advocate.
