Obama-Wright Part 2: Obama Knew About Wright's Comments In Feb. 2007

By wt

ADVERTISEMENTS
Most of America just learned about Jeremiah Wright's controversial comments in the last week or so. Though I'd known about his trip to Libya with Louis Farrakhan, I hadn't seen any video or transcript of of Wright's sermons.

But Obama had.

When these statements first came to my attention, it was at the beginning of my presidential campaign. I made it clear at the time that I strongly condemned his comments. But because Rev. Wright was on the verge of retirement, and because of my strong links to the Trinity faith community, where I married my wife and where my daughters were baptized, I did not think it appropriate to leave the church.

Wow. Obama began his campaign in February 2007. Obama knew more than a year ago that Wright had asked God to damn America? He knew more than a year ago that Wright had claimed the CIA invented the HIV virus?

And he stayed with his church.

Ok, he stayed with the church. Fine. Wright was retiring in about a year, the church is bigger than the pastor, etc.

But then why keep him ON YOUR CAMPAIGN?

Seems like a strange thing to do, especially given Obama's apparently genuine renunciation of Wright's comments, and his insistence earlier last week that Geraldine Ferraro not be part of Clinton's campaign.
