By Simon Fodden

ADVERTISEMENTS

StatsCan has released the data from the Civil Court Survey for 2008/2009 of Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. The data are available upon request from Statistics Canada’s Centre for Justice Statistics.

Slaw has made that request and has placed the data file we received online for you to download [PDF]. The data are in ten tables for each of the years of the survey, i.e. the years 2005/2006 to 2008/2009. The tables respecting 2008/2009 begin on page 33 of the file. They (and those for the other years) are as follows:

  1. Civil court cases by level of court and type of action
  2. Active family cases by type of family action and level of court
  3. Active general civil cases by type of general civil action and level of court
  4. Events in active family court cases by type of event
  5. Events in active general civil court cases by type of event
  6. Civil court cases with activity in [a given year] and no activity in [the prior year] by level of court, type of action and year of case initiation
  7. Elapsed time from case initiation to first disposition for active family cases by level of court
  8. Elapsed time from case initiation to first disposition for active general civil cases by level of court
