: The GavelA Virtual Makeover at the Supreme Court
By Peter Hardin
The Supreme Court has a new look–via its updated Web site, that is.
The Web site redesign brought “the site into the 21st century only a few years late,” observed The Blog of Legal Times. The blog assessed the redesign this way: “From a quick survey, it does not appear that the Supreme Court’s new site has much new or different content, but what is there is more accessible and reader-friendly.”
The Sunlight Foundation, a group that advocates for government transparency and accountability, had called earlier for a major redesign of the court’s Web site (see Gavel Grab). Daniel Schuman of Sunlight Foundation commented about the redesign, “The new website is a small but important step towards increased openness and accessibility, although it needs serious work.”
An announcement by the court noted, “The Web address for the site will change from www.supremecourtus.gov to www.supremecourt.gov, but either address will provide access through July 1, 2010.” It said the court plans to update and expand the Web site’s features.
