Another Toyota Lawsuit--When Will Enough Be Enough?

By Paul Thomson

ADVERTISEMENTS

Toyota continues to make news as yet another innocent driver met an unfair death due to an out-of-control vehicle. The Houston Chronicle reported that a Houston woman died in December due to her car accelerating wildly and causing the car to hit a cement wall. Trina Renee Harris was 34 years old and the mother of two. She also leaves behind a doting husband, Michael Harris, who has "filed a lawsuit Monday against Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., gas pedal maker CTS Corp. and Fred Haas Toyota World, which leased her the car". Mr. Harris said, "I want those who were negligent to be held responsible. This problem was there before Dec. 18 when she died." This is the third wrongful death lawsuit against Toyota.

Although there have been massive recalls, the issue just isn't being solved or handled properly. "If there's a problem, you don't put it off...This is about people's lives. Money should not outweigh people's lives," Harris said, arguing that his wife's death was avoidable. Harris heard about the floor mat and accelerator issues and remembered that his wife said the gas pedal sometimes seemed to move on its own. Harris even contacted Toyota after the accident and never got a response. As a result, he "sought out the lawyers and sued, asking for $200 million in actual and punitive damages for what he alleged is gross negligence. 'Toyota is building death traps and they know it and they need to stop it,' said lawyer Ken Mingledorff." Toyota failed to comment. Toyota needs to stop ignoring the safety of their customers and take action! Mr. Harris is absolutely right--no amount of money is worth a life!
