Texas Execution

Texas carried out its second execution of 2010, last night in Huntsville.  It was the 449th Texas execution since 1982; the 210th execution conducted under Governor Rick Perry.  Texas has far and away the most active death chamber in America, accounting for more than 37% of the nation's post-Furman executions.  Today's Huntsville Item reports on the execution of Gary Johnson, "Man executed for ranch murders."  It's written by Mary Rainwater. To date, there have been four executions in the nation in 2010, and 1,189 executions since 1977.Karl Keys at Capital Defense Weekly notes that Oklahoma is scheduled to carry out its first execution of 2010 later today.  TDCJ now reports six more executions scheduled in Texas during 2010, including one in February and three in March...continue to full post
