: IBLS Internet Law BlogWhat Constitutes Public Information for Blog?
By Jerry
Legal Issue:
Bankaholic.com website started as a blog comparing
certificates of deposit in the USA, becoming the number one search for CDs then
expanded to other products. It sold to BankRate for USD$15 million. The site is
based on redistributing public information; presumably this info is published by
financial institutions on their websites and in periodicals, etc, I'm not 100%
sure. My questions are these; what constitutes public information? Can I build a
blog business based on redistribution and repackaging of seller's information
sourced from their sites and from magazines, etc, focusing on my areas of
interest? Thanks
