: Effective, Ethical Marketing For AttorneysAVVO Admits It Does Not Verify Client "Reviews, " even if defamatory
By Ben Glass
AVVO is an "attorney rating" service. It is supposed to permit consumers to "rate" lawyers aka "Angie's List"
Problem is, it allows comments that are totally anonymous. Attorneys (assuming they can even figure out who the poster is) are prevented from commenting about defamatory posts due to the attorney client privilege.
How can anyone be sure that the commenter is not a competitor or complete wack job? AVVO says it collects "contact information" (big deal) but doesn't otherwise verify anything.
Here's a good example of an attorney not being able to respond to this anonymous poster on AVVO.
