Back to school: top 10 teacher applications

ADVERTISEMENTS

BoardBuzz is in the back to school mindset, and we thought it very appropriate to find that Mashable has posted a list of great web apps designed with hard-working teachers in mind:

Teachers have one of the most difficult and least appreciated jobs in the world, and most of them spend many unpaid hours after school doing extra work coming up with lesson plans and managing their classrooms. That?s why it is exciting that new tools are making it easier for teachers to manage the administrative tasks ? like keeping track of attendance ? so they can focus more energy on helping students learn.

The applications include:

  1. SchoolRack, a free application for teachers to create classroom web sites.
  2. SchoolTool, a free web-based tool for school administrators offering a grade book, attendance tracking, calendar, and contact management features.
  3. Curriki, a collaborative project bringing educators together to share curricula with one another.
  4. Edmodo, something like Twitter, but designed specifically for use in a classroom setting, which makes it safer, more secure, and have more utility for teachers overall.
  5. Shmoop, which offers study guides for literature, US history, poetry, and civics, as well as biographies of famous people.
  6. Footnote, a collection of over 58 million original historical documents.
  7. ClassMarker, a full-featured online test and quiz maker.
  8. Bookgoo, a kind of like document sharing site with the additional ability of users to mark up and annotate uploaded documents.
  9. DOC Cop, a way to go about testing for plagiarism.
  10. TeacherTube a, great resource for finding educational videos as well as photos, documents, and audio.

Check out the full Mashable post for screenshots and more details. And welcome back, teachers!
