Gaming the Supreme Court

ADVERTISEMENTS

Apparently, we have civics on our mind…

BoardBuzz has known for some time about Our Courts, a web-based education project designed to teach students civics and inspire them to be active participants in our democracy.

Our Courts is the vision of Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, who is concerned that students are not getting the information and tools they need for civic participation, and that civics teachers need better materials and support.

Just last month, Our Courts launched their first online games: Do I Have A Right? and Supreme Decision. A growing body of research shows that games have extraordinary potential for promoting learning and civic engagement.

Since a recent Pew report showed that 97% of teenager play video games, we think this is an excellent way to learn about civics. BoardBuzz strongly believes that the interaction and critical thinking required during gameplay greatly improves the learning process.

We suggest you check out the games above. You might even learn something.
