. . . Or, maybe she just wants to be the John Madden of the court world.
Whatever, but according to Multiplayer and other sources, Sandra Day O'Connor is not just sitting on her laurels as the grand dame of the United States Supreme Court, she is entering the high stakes digital gaming world with the introduction of the game Our Courts.
She must of just got tired of playing Halo 3 after her retirement, and decided to get a piece of the multi-billion dollar digital gaming business for herself.
Whatever her motivation, Justice O'Connor told the 2008 Games for Change Festival that two-thirds of Americans can name at least one judge on American Idol but less than one in ten can name a Chief Justice in the U.S. Supreme Court. Just maybe, however, that is a result of the fact that American Idol is televised and the subject of numerous social media sites, and the United States Supreme Court is not -- and it has one boring and relatively useless website.
Here is a thought. If you really want people to know, understand, and participate in our justice system, and especially in our appellate justice system, start televising oral arguments in the Supreme Court. (Yes, it can be dignified). Upload them, and post them on You Tube. Create a Supreme Court blog to keep the discussion going and to keep the people informed about your thought process, the progress being made on cases before The Court, and the like. I know, I know, you are worried about word vomit -- or saying something you really did not mean to say. But, you are just going to have to take a chance. You cannot continue to go around acting like the entire World has been yellow listed.
Or, maybe The Court should just start with posting biographies of the Justices in html that contain actual pictures of the justices, and personal messages from the justices. Enough with the PDFs already. We get it. You have a copy of Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. And, being the government, you probably paid more than the $449.00 retail price for it.
