By jcdw

ADVERTISEMENTS

A report now adopted by the European Commission takes stock of how the EU Member States fulfilled the obligations they agreed upon when signing the EU Convention on the Protection of the European Communities? financial interests and its three Protocols. These instruments ensure proportionate criminal sanctions for crimes detrimental to the EU budget (revenue and expenditure) in all Member States. The report deplores frequent delays in ratification and cases of incorrect implementation. It concludes that further action by the Commission is necessary in order to overcome the persistent shortcomings and to guarantee a uniform and high level of criminal-law protection of the Community?s financial interests.
