: Personal Injury and Social Security Disability BlogSome Commonly Prescribed US Drugs Are Banned in Other Countries
By Robert Kraft
The Ventura County (CA) Star editorializes, "It is a little-known fact that some drugs Americans are commonly prescribed by their doctors are banned in other countries. For instance, if your doctor gave you a prescription today for painkillers Darvocet, Darvon or their generic counterparts, you are unlikely to know they were banned a few years back in Britain because of a number of suicides and accidental overdoses; or that Europe's drug regulators are recommending other European countries also ban them for the same reason." The FDA "will now require a boxed warning on the drugs' label and a pamphlet accompanying each bottle, with warnings about taking too much." The Star comments, "We hope the warnings work and, if they don't, we hope an estimated 21 million prescriptions a year - and the accompanying profits - don't get in the way of the FDA protecting Americans' health."
From the American Association for Justice news release.
