Nichtzulassung zur Rechtsanwaltschaft wegen hoher Schulden

ADVERTISEMENTS
Dieses Konzept zum Schutz der Mandantschaft existiert offenbar weltweit. Es berichtet AmLaw Daily:
Aspiring New York lawyer Robert Bowman has some $400,000 in student loan debt after putting himself through college, a master's program, and law school. Now that he's finally qualified to become a lawyer, though, the New York state bar is denying him the chance to repay the loans, the New York Times reports.

A group of five state appellate judges recently decided that the size of Bowman's loans, along with his failure to repay them, show that he lacks "the character and general fitness requisite for an attorney." Their decision to reject him comes after Bowman, a former foster child, took the bar exam four times and finally passed last year.
Wäre das hierzulande schon "Vermögensverfall"?

Hinter dem konkreten Fall (über den auch die New York Times berichtet) steckt überdies eine tragische Geschichte:
The 47-year-old's massive debt load accumulated over about 26 of struggling to complete his education, including enrollments at the State University of New York in Albany, the University of California Hastings College of Law, and a masters of law program in London. There was also lots of time spent in various hospitals. Bowman nearly lost his left leg in an accident as an undergraduate, then broke his right leg in four places soon after passing the bar last year. All that trouble, he says, prevented him from making any payments.
Dem Kollegen in spe ist alles Gute zu wünschen!
