More Congressional, State Stories on Eligibility

By Phil

ADVERTISEMENTS

Before getting to the two stories, CountryFirst forum moderator “Mountain Publis Goat” enlightens us on the history concerning the scope and importance of the natural born citizen verbiage in the Constitution’s presidential eligibility clause:

[The natural born citizen "class"] is not a small group but the vast and overwhelming majority of U.S. citizens. Natural born citizens are 2nd generation Americans with both parents being citizens at the time of their birth. Thus they have deeper roots to this country than the type of ordinary citizen Obama’ is, if he is. This is what the founders and framers wanted for the singular office of the President and CINC.  Senators and Reps and Govs can be first generation Americans. But for the person who controls and commands our military, per John Jay to Washington, they inserted the natural born citizen clause which require a 2nd generation american via both parents.  Total allegiance via the parents having been born here or swearing allegiance to the USA.  Obama’s father never did that.  In fact Obama’s father was never even a permanent resident or immigrant to the USA at all.

The first story comes from the Memphis, TN site, CommercialAppeal.com, concerning Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN):

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn is one of six Republican sponsors of a bill that would require future presidential candidates to show their birth certificates to establish they meet the Constitutional requirements to serve. …

By raising the issue, “she certainly is painting herself into the far right corner,” said Rhodes College political science professor Marcus Pohlmann. “Normally you don’t propose a solution unless there’s a problem; so what’s the problem??It seems an odd one to pull out of the blue in a pre-emptive way.”

Blackburn’s spokesman Claude H. Chafin defended her sponsorship.

“Most Americans are probably surprised that they don’t” have to document meeting the requirement, said Chafin. “A lot of people expressed surprise to her since (last year’s presidential campaign) that people don’t have to actually document anything.”

The next is via StlToday.com; it talks about a recent meeting by State Representatives Cynthia Davis and Ed Emergy with attorney Dr. Orly Taitz…

JEFFERSON CITY ? Two Missouri state representatives today attended meetings conducted by Orly Taitz in which the California dentist questioned the validity of the presidency of Barack Obama. …

Rep. Cynthia Davis, R- O?Fallon, who has gotten a bit of national attention lately, was at the event in St. Charles, though she said she was just seeking information, according toa Jo Mannies blog post.

Not so for Rep. Ed Emery, R-Lamar. Emery said he questions Obama?s citizenship and he believes his alleged lack of a legitimate birth certificate ignores the Constitution.

?We?re thumbing our nose at the Constitution,? Emery said. He and Taitz allege that Obama?s certificate of live birth isn?t the same as a birth certificate.

The theory of the false birth certificate has been thoroughly de-bunked by numerous non-partisan groups. But Taitz argues that all of those groups are controlled by Obama.

Speaking to reporters, Emery concluded the issue wasn?t going to go away.

?Whoever is satisfied is satisfied,? he said. ?Whoever is not, is not.?

Emery and Davis both chair committees in the Missouri House of Representatives. And they aren?t the only Missouri Republicans to go along with Taitz? theory. State Rep. Tim Jones, R-Eureka, a lawyer, signed on to Taitz lawsuit about the birth certificate issue, a point Taitz made at her meetings.

At the Jefferson City meeting, she also mentioned Rep. Casey Guernsey, R-Bethany, as a supporter. And Sen. Jim Lembke, R-Lemay, sent his chief of staff to the St. Charles meeting.

Taitz, who was born in the former Soviet Union, referred to Obama as ?King Obama? and the ?Messiah? during her talk. She said citizens should form their own grand juries and indict the president. [emphases original]

Of course, the embedded FactCheck.org site does not confirm that Hawaiian officials have actually seen Mr. Obama’s original 1961 birth certificate (from which the produced COLB is claimed to originate), nor have they claimed that the original birth certificate on file specifically states that Mr. Obama was born in Hawaii (especially as there has never been a publicly viewable record of the transaction to procure the certification of live birth), nor have they claimed that the certification of live birth sufficiently substantiates Mr. Obama’s eligibility for the presidency.
