New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) to verify dependent eligibility for NYSHIP participation

New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) to verify dependent eligibility for NYSHIP participation
Source: NYSHIP Eligibility Verification Project

New York State Health Insurance Program (NYSHIP) plans to conduct a ?Dependent Eligibility Verification Project? to help insure that a participant receiving health insurance benefits is entitled to them. NYSHIP enrollees with family coverage will be required to provide proof of their dependents' eligibility as of February 1, 2009.

The Department will offer enrollees the opportunity to remove ineligible dependents before the verification project begins. Enrollees who do so can avoid having to repay any claims paid on behalf of an ineligible dependent as well as possible legal action.

Information packets are expected to be mailed to all NYSHIP enrollees with family coverage regarding the Special Amnesty Period in April. Once the ?Special Amnesty Period? ends, eligibility verification materials will be mailed to all enrollees having dependent coverage.

Failure to respond to requests for information will result in the dependent's removal from coverage as well the possibility that the Department will seek to recover payment from the enrollee for claims paid on behalf of any dependent determined to be ineligible.

An ?overview? of this project is posted on the Department of Civil Service?s Internet site at:
