Report: Ruth Madoff Lawyers Up

By Ashby Jones

ADVERTISEMENTS

madoffWe’d been wondering when Ruth Madoff, wife of Bernie, would get her own lawyer (click here and here for earlier posts). Until now, she’s been repped by Ike Sorkin, her husband’s lawyer, an arrangement which pretty much from the get-go seemed problematic and ill-fated. After all, the legal interests of Ruth and Bernie are vastly different and could, at least theoretically, come into direct conflict with each other.

So we were relieved to hear that Ruth is parting ways with Sorkin and hiring her own counsel. Click here for the article from New York’s Newsday.

“Going forward, if and when the government wants to talk to [Ruth]… she will be hiring her own counsel,” Sorkin told Newsday.

The question you’re all asking, of course: who’s gets the lucky assignment? Answer: we’re not sure. Newsday didn’t have it. We’ve made some calls this morning to find out more, and we’ll let you know if and when we hear back.
