Poet reaches deal with past employee

Josh Verges Sioux Falls-based Poet has reached a settlement with a former employee who it says violated noncompete and trade secret agreements. Anthony Simpson resigned as general manager of Poet's Caro, Mich., plant in July after accepting a job as vice president of operations for Ethanex Energy in Basehor, Kan., Poet said in a civil complaint filed in August in federal court. Simpson had signed an agreement that he wouldn't work in the industry for two years after leaving Poet, the company said. Other agreements involved the disclosure of Poet's trade secrets.
