: Legal Pad | LAAttorney, charged with having child porn, reaches plea deal
By Jason Siegel
San Bernardino County attorney Thomas Henry Merdzinski made a plea deal with the government over charges of possessing over 600 sexually explicit photos and videos of children on several hard drives, The Desert Sun reported (here).
According to the newspaper, prosecutors will seek a lighter sentence for Merdzinski in exchange a guilty plea. He was among 52 suspects charged with producing or possessing child porn. "Those charged include a law enforcement officer, attorneys* and men with previous convictions related to the child pornography," according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles. While the release notes attorneys, plural, U.S. Attorney Thomas O'Brien told media at a press conference that "one was an attorney." (WATCH)
"'As defendant knew, the... images contained visual depictions of prepubescent children... engaged in sadistic and masochistic acts, such as adult males engaged in vaginal and anal intercourse with prepubescent girls, some as young as infants,'" reads the July 22 plea agreement, according to The Desert Sun.
