ADVERTISEMENTS
Oral argument in Rothgery v. Gillespie County (07-440) has been set for March 17.  Briefs and other documents, including an Amicus filed by a group of law professors, is at this page on SCOTUS Wiki. At issue is the timing of a defendant's right to counsel. The Texas Fair Defense Project is counsel for Walter Rothgery. Here's what TFDP said about the case last month:The issue in Rothgery is critical for indigent defendants, who are dependent on the courts for access to counsel. In many Texas counties, individuals arrested for criminal offenses and bound over for trial wait months before a defense attorney is appointed.Earlier coverage of the Supreme Court's cert grant in the case is here.
