Dear K,

How does it feel to be 19 months old? I know what you would say: "Yeah!"

In the past month, you have started saying two-syllable words and repeating what Daddy and I say. (Who are we going to vote for President next month? OBABA!)

You have learned to eat with a real fork, not just a baby fork, and to use a spoon all by yourself, making mealtimes much easier and more pleasant for Mommy. You're pretty good at drinking out of a regular non-sippy cup too, but I can't trust you with one because after taking a few sips, you'll turn it over and dump out all the water.

You have learned to count to ten! I am very impressed with that one, although I'm not really surprised because you've memorized so many of your books already, and you hear us counting to ten multiple times a day. You love all the Richard Scarry books, especially "Pee Eh" (The Busiest People Ever) and "Cah...GO!" (Cars and Trucks and Things That Go). Your favorite story is The Three Fisherman, from Favorite Storybook Ever. You like to hear me recite the end. "Aha!" you'll prompt. "I see." "Aha! I see," I'll repeat obligingly. "A fish is biting his tail." "Ca, Daddy." "That fish is trying to catch Daddy!" "Good, tail." "It is good that Daddy has a strong tail." "Lowly!" "Now everyone has caught a fish except Lowly. But, look! Lowly has taken off his hat. What's underneath?" "A FI!" "A FISH!"

This weekend you are getting a visit from your aunt and uncle and new baby cousin M! You were a little suspicious of M last time we saw her, when she was just born. I think this time you'll recognize her as a fellow small person. You tend to be territorial, so we'll see how you react when she plays with your toys and gets picked up by your parents.

Love you, kid.
Mommy
